M. David Cogburn, M.D.
M. David Cogburn, M.D. attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville and earned a degree with distinction in Biology. He attended East Carolina University School of Medicine and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, FL and completed his dermatology residency at Lloyd Nolan Hospital & Health Clinics in Birmingham, AL and the North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Dr. Cogburn is board certified by the American Academy of Dermatology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the NC Dermatology Society. He is a member of the Board and the Director of Professional Relations for the North American Clinical Dermatological Society. He is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill through the Mountain Area Health Education Center.
Dr. Cogburn established Carolina Mountain Dermatology, PA in 1986. He practices general dermatology which includes diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair and nails as well as biopsies and surgery for the treatment of skin cancer. Dr. Cogburn has a special interest in cosmetic dermatology and has been performing Botox Cosmetic and dermal fillers since they were first introduced in the marketplace. Dr. Cogburn was the first dermatologist in North Carolina to receive advanced training in Tumescent Liposuction from Dr. Jeffrey Klein. Dr. Cogburn has been performing tumescent liposuction for 15 years. Dr. Cogburn is married and lives with his wife in Asheville. They have two adult children. He enjoys spending time with his family, various civic responsibilities, working out and playing the piano.
Dr. Cogburn is an appointee to the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina at Asheville. He spends countless hours in development of our local university. He is also a former Director, Vice-Chair and Chairman of the UNC-Asheville Foundation. He is a Director of the Board of the Bank of Asheville. He also volunteers for various dermatology and sun safety educational seminars throughout the community, as well as the Annual Skin Cancer Screening at the Asheville Mall in conjunction with Mission Hospitals.
Frederick W. Gourdin, M.D.
Dr. Frederick W. Gourdin attended Emory University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in General Surgery and a Fellowship in Peripheral Vascular Surgery and practiced in Kingsport, TN from 1981 to 1988. During this time he was also the Assistant Professor of Surgery at Quillen College of Medicine East Tennessee State University. In 1990 he completed a dermatology residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and in 1994 completed his Mohs Micrographic Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. He was the Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Medical College of Georgia from 1994 to 1998 specializing in Mohs Micrographic.
Dr. Gourdin is board certified by the American Academy of Dermatology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the NC Dermatology Society. He is a member of the North American Clinical Dermatological Society.
Dr. Gourdin joined Carolina Mountain Dermatology, PA in 1998. He performs Mohs Micrographic exclusively and by referral only.
Dr. Gourdin lives in Asheville with his wife. He has two adult children. He enjoys traveling, hiking and stamp collecting. He participates in the Annual Skin Cancer Screening at the Asheville mall in conjunction with Mission Hospitals.
Jay L. Clarke, PA-C
Jay L. Clarke, PA-C attended the University of California at Berkeley where he earned a degree in Conservation and Resource Studies. After with working for an oceanographic and environmental research firm, Jay left California to attend Duke University School of Medicine where he earned a Master of Health Science degree in the Physician Assistant Program. Jay worked as a Physician Assistant in family practice from 2000 to 2004. He joined Carolina Mountain Dermatology, PA in 2004. Jay performs all dermatology services including dermatologic disorders, biopsies, and surgery as well as cosmetic procedures like Botox and dermal fillers.
Jay is married and has two children. He lives in Waynesville and enjoys spending time with his family. He is an avid cycler. Jay volunteers his time as the medical professional on call for the Folkmoot International Festival in Waynesville each year. In addition, he performs various Sun Safety Educational seminars throughout the community.
